History of Take Your Dog to Work Day

June 9, 2018

Every dog has his day, and on Friday June 22, just happens to be a really big one. Dogs all over the world donned ties, attended the meetings and worked hard for Take Your Dog to Work Day. Little do we know, the history behind it. From this article, we will discover how it started and why we have this kind of celebration.

TYDTWDay originally started in the United Kingdom in 1996 and formally introduced in the United States in 1999. This year will the be 20th annual event. It was created by Pet Sitters International to celebrate friendship with dogs and to promote their adoptions. This event encourages employers to experience the joys of bringing your pets in your workplace and a whole day to support their local pet communities.

Through this event, non-pet owners are able to witness the special bond their co-workers have with their pets and encouraged others to adopt new best friend of their own. An estimated 300 businesses participated in the inaugural celebration of this event, since that time, America’s love affair with their pooch grow stronger. And now, not only in US but it is already celebrated around the world.  From Canada, Belgium, Ireland, England, Brazil, Philippines and Australia, have pledged to participate.

Dog owners around the world have long had to juggle a guilt-ridden commute to the office with leaving their buddy at home. Thankfully, June 22, those same furry companions will get the opportunity to join their masters to work for Take Your Dog to Work Day.

On TYDTWDay, adorable pictures of pups on computers and lounging on offices will surely flood social media, and you may even feel a wet nose on your ankle during meeting, if you join this event.

If you’re fortunate enough to work in an office that allows dogs to work then TYDTWDay will just be another day for you. But if your office normally is dog-free, Friday might be very special, indeed.

On that big day, don’t let the presence of your pups interfere with getting your work done. The idea of TYDTWDay is to show employers the positive benefits of pets in the workplace, not that dogs are time-wasters or excuses for slacking off.

Always remember, be sure to take a moment to think about helping an animal in need.
